Emma and Nathan: Intimate Backyard Wedding in Ottawa

You know how sometimes you meet a couple and you just think: THIS IS IT. If the dictionary had real world people beside words, they would be beside the word love? Yeah, well Emma and Nathan are that.

The moment I met them I knew - they weren’t just in love, just getting married, just anything. They were all in. Wholeheartedly. Otherworldly.

As Mary-Kate and Ashley circa It Takes Two would say: Reach for the stars, world series kinda stuff. (bonus points to anyone who knows this reference!)

Photographing this wedding was a JOY. From arriving to leaving, parents to friends to song choices and special additions to their ceremony, the entire day was so full of love, I was enamoured.

A First-Look done differently: FATHER DAUGHTER FIRST LOOK

The benefits of this kind of first look are VAST! Emma and Nathan wanted to save their first look for the aisle - classic! - But Emma still wanted the moment before her walk down the aisle of showing off her dress, just with the man giving her away.

Emma and her father were adorable, emotional, and full of love. Watching tears of joy fall of her fathers eyes will remain one of my favourite moments of this wedding.

The sheer love and emotion in this moment was palpable.

If you are thinking of doing a first look, but don’t think you love the idea of doing it with your fiancé, doing a first look with your family/friends gives you a moment of pure joy with the people you love before your ceremony - the day will be long and wonderful and you may not have a lot of spare time to have a slow moment of joy with them!

Remember, it is YOUR wedding, you can do anything you want!

Emma and Nathan had moments throughout their ceremony that were entirely them, their beliefs, their choices.

From a family-wide prayer - which was beautiful to witness - to foot washing before ‘I do’.

They didn’t follow any set tradition, but rather built their own based on their love and their beliefs. It was entirely their own and extremely intimate. Weddings do not need to be about big grand moments, they can be about anything and everything you and your partner choose! I loved how Emma and Nathan turned their wedding into a day full of their traditions as a couple, the traditions from their families that they wanted to uphold, and the slowness that love demands on a regular basis.

Couple Portraits Can Happen Wherever You Want!

After the ceremony, and the usual family portraits, we snuck off to a wooded area 20 minutes away to create some personal wedding portraits, and when I say this was a creative’s dream, I truly mean this was a creative’s dream. Nathan and Emma were open to anything, in the best moods imaginable and truly wanted to try whatever. And it worked amazingly!

We incorporated all things Emma and Nathan into their portraits, from some outdoor adventure, to loads of FLIRTY FUN, and of course some amazing portraits on their Jeep. There is no right or wrong when it comes to your wedding day, the photos you want to remember the day by, or how your photographer approaches the day.

All in all, this is exactly why I love small intimate weddings - nothing again the lovers of large and in charge weddings - for the small personal moments of magic I am lucky enough to capture all day long!

CONGRATS EMMA AND NATHAN, Thank you for trusting me to capture your day!
