I’ve said it once, and I will say it every day - The best family photos happen when you just HAVE FUN! Run around, throw them in the air, play tag, MAKE MEMORIES.
And where is a child’s favourite place to make some memories and run around? THE PARK.
Most parks have a playground area, perfect for getting wiggles out and sparking fun and genuine happiness, and green space - perfect for those vast family photos. And, if you let your kiddos know they can play on the playground while getting photos done, they will almost always be willing to run up and take a family photo in the green space!
The main reason kids don’t ‘do what you want’ during a photoshoot is because they like to feel in control - don’t we all! - and when you choose to approach a photoshoot as a moment to make memories, rather than a moment to get the shots you want, they can feel that!
This amazing family chose their local park for photos, the kids knew it, they loved it, and they felt like kings and queens of the location! They showed me all their favourite things, and PLAYED with their siblings and mom and dad, and I got to be along for the ride. No need for ‘cheese’ or direction!
The next time you are thinking of where to do your family photos, don’t underestimate the power of a park!
